Tyler is emerging as one of the most versatile and contemporary drummers in Canada. While working primarily in the jazz genre, he is also in high demand as a funk and Latin drummer. Among others, his drumming influences include Max Roach, Roy Haynes and Bill Stewart.

The last 11 years have taken Tyler on numerous tours around North America, South America and Europe, where his drumming is a popular staple at many jazz festivals, clubs, and concerts. Tyler has performed with such artists as Bob Mintzer, Ingrid Jensen, Frank Mantooth, Alain Caron, Randy Brecker, Mike Murley, Hugh Fraser, Tommy Banks, Chip Stephens, Shelly Berg, Ralph Bowen and Decidedly Jazz Danceworks.

In 2006, Tyler completed his Masters Degree in Jazz Performance/Pedagogy at the University of Colorado (Boulder), where he studied composition with Grammy Award winning pianist Chip Stephens, and drumset with Woody Herman alumnus Paul Romaine.

In late 2005 Tyler released his debut acoustic jazz album entitled "Shadows of a Brighter Day" featuring Mike Murley, Ingrid Jensen, Chip Stephens, and Ken Walker.  This album showcases Tyler's compositions which contain post-bop, contemporary and odd meter influences with unique harmonic and melodic twists.
